While I realize that the majority of the information on this site focuses on weapons of war, this site is not intended to condone or glorify combat. As a former member of the United States Navy, I fully understand the old adage that no one despises war more than those who must fight them.

The Digital Shipwright Wiki

This is the official Wiki for the Digital Shipwright. This Wiki has been designed as a repository for warship technical information. While this information pertains largely to the United States Navy, other nation's vessels and technology may appear throughout for reference and comparison.

While I have explicitly attempted to avoid political discussions, the influence of government treaties and agreements on naval engineering can not be denied. Below is a list of some of these treaties and documents.

MARAD and the Navy's Inactive Fleet are two separate entities. MARAD is not a Navy facility, but is under the Department of Transportation (DOT).

MARAD maintains the National Defense Reserve Fleet (NDRF) as a ready source of ships for use during national emergencies and assists in fulfilling its traditional role as the nation's fourth arm of defense in logistically supporting the military when needed.
